Stihl Wins Van Grand Prix…

The eleventh round of Işıklar World Offshore 225 Championship in Van ended with Stihl, GSYIAD-Galatasaray and YKM Sport on the podium.

Kerem Tuncer and Levent Basak of Stihl completed the eleventh race of Isiklar World Offshore 225 Championship held in Van with a time of 35:43,062 which was their seventh consecutive win.

Italian pilots Giovanni Casagni and Francesco Redaelli of GSYIAD-Galatasaray team followed them with a time of 36:45,546. The new pilots of GSYIAD will continue to race for the remaining part of the season.

Kerim Zorlu and Cengiz Cennetoğlu of YKM Sport team, the 2010 champion, took third place with their time of 37:42,281 and added 120 points to their overall score.

Held for the fourth time on Lake Van, the Van Grand Prix is organized by Istanbul Offshore Club as part of Developing Sports Federation and the contributions of Governorship of Van and Provincial Directorate GSGM. The race started with nine teams at the lineup.

The day began with the qualifying sessions held at Edremit - Gebze Water Sports Center at 11.00. YKM Sport boat, piloted by Kerim Zorlu and Cengiz Cennetoglu, took the pole position with a time of 1.52.906 and they were followed by just a second by Stihl’s Kerem Tuncer and Levent Başak. Third place at the start of the race was taken by Besiktas-Miele pilots Hamdi Kitapçı and Murat Leki with the time of 2.00.703.

Held at Edremit Gebze Water Sports Center on Lake Van, the race took place on a 3.6 km circuit over 15 laps. WD40 boat had an unfortunate start to the race and retired due to transmission failure. Hakan Vanlı and Tufan Aker of Olympic de Marseille, completing the race with a time of 35:48,156, took fourth place in the general classification while Besiktas-Miele with Murat Leki and Hamdi Kitapçı finished fifth with their time of 33:03,328.

The trophies of the winners were presented by Munir Karaloglu, Governor of Van, Osman Nuri Guler, Chief Public Prosecutor of Van, Gulsen Orhan, Van MP, Nurullah Ertas, Deputy Governor of Van and Enver Oral, President of Developing Sports Federation.

Işıklar Offshore 225 Championship Van Grand Prix 2 run on Sunday ended with the victory of Stihl, as the team confidently approaches towards the end of the World Championship.

Pilots Kerem Tuncer and Levent Başak succeeded to finish the race in the first position with a time of 36:31,343. The other two teams on the podium remained the same as the previous day but changed places.

Kerim Zorlu and Cengiz Cennetoğlu of YKM Sport team, the third of the previous day, achieved a time of 37:21,859 and took second place on Sunday’s race while Italian pilots Giovanni Casagni and Francesco Redaelli (37:53,218) on GSYIAD -Galatasaray boat completed the race in third place, just a second in front of Beşiktaş...

The second day of Van races of Işıklar World Offshore 225 Championship ended with “Van Grand Prix 2” today.

Qualifying rounds to be held at Edremit - Gebze Water Sports Center were cancelled due to weather conditions therefore the teams spent the morning with free practice and tested their boats. The race was held on a 3.1 km circuit over 20 laps with the participation of eight teams. Angel Yacht (66) suffered a breakdown in the eleventh lap and lost about 7 minutes. Despite succeeding to return to the circuit and trying hard to remain in the race, the pilots were forced to retire in the 14th lap.

On the other hand, although Olympic de Marseille team with pilots Hakan Vanlı and Adil Küçüksarı maintained their second position until the 16th lap, after missing the pit stop they lost valuable time and went down to fifth place. BJK - Miele as one of the most ambitious teams in the Championship took fourth place. After Van Grand Prix, Stihl leads the Championship with 1.967 points followed by Galatasaray with 1.560 and Besiktas in third place with 1.516 points.

The next round of the Championship will be in Istanbul on August 6-7, 2011.
