Istanbul Offshore Club became part of a very important environmental initiative that involves eliminating carbon footprints which is an environmentally-sensitive approach currently implemented only by a few organizations in the world.

Istanbul Offshore Club participated in the initiative supported by well-known names, brands and organizations like U2, Yahoo, Google and 2010 Winter Olympics with “Işıklar World Offshore 225 Championship” races and became the first and only watersports championship organization in the world to eliminate carbon footprints.

IOC’s “Işıklar World Offshore 225 Championship” was certified as a “Carbon Zero Event” by Nous Energy Consult and IOC received its certificate from Sara Erdoğdu, General Director of the organization during a ceremony held at Işıklar Holding.

2011 World Offshore 225 Championship is a first in Turkey and the world as an environmentally-sensitive watersports event to eliminate its carbon footprints*.

Believing that responsible steps should be taken toward a more livable world that currently faces environmental and climate challenges, I.O.C Istanbul Offshore Club took action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to avoid leaving carbon footprints of the 2011 World Offshore 225 Championship . The footprints will be offset by carbon credits to be obtained from the Voluntary Carbon Market.

The 2011 World Offshore 225 Championship’s carbon footprints will be calculated by Nous Energy Consulting and Trade Ltd, one of the young and dynamic carbon certification companies in Turkey. After the event, the carbon footprints will be offset by using the carbon emission reduction credits of one of the hydraulic power plants in Turkey that has completed its certification process through voluntary emission reduction activities.

Nous Energy Consulting and Trade Ltd will be the Carbon Sponsor for “2011 Işıklar World Offshore 225 Championship”.
