Offshore win boosts Galatasaray’s morale prior to derby

2010 Architon World Offshore 225 Championship “Shop&Miles Boat Show Grand Prix” race organized by the support of Shop&Miles 29th International Istanbul Boat Show and Marinturk Istanbul City Port was run on Saturday. The winner was GSYİAD Galatasaray with Berna – Josef Muhlbauer couple and they were followed by Beşiktaş with Ali Tanır and Murat Leki. The French team Olympique de Marseille team piloted by Jerome Brarda and Hamdi Kitapçı came third. 2 YKM Sport piloted by Saruhan Tan and Kerim Zorlu experienced a mechanical problem in the 30th lap while they were in second place and they could only complete the race in 8th place; even so they maintain their lead position in the championship.

The race took place off the coast of Pendik in cloudy and cold weather was again the scene of tough competition among the top three contenders. The product of latest technology with modern designs, the boats that can go up to 90 mph pushed adrenaline limits. Racing with GSYİAD Galatasaray 1905 boat, the experienced couple Berna-Josef Muhlbauer finished in first place. Muhlbauer couple said that they wanted to boost the morale of the team prior to Sunday’s important derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe. Galatasaray’s archrival Beşiktaş on the football field chased the racing team for a long time. Beşiktaş boat piloted by Ali Tanır and Murat Leki and 2 YKM Sport competed fiercely. In a race in which every point would affect the ranking, 2 YKM Sport suffered a mechanical problem in the 30th lap and could only finish in the 8th place. Saruhan Tan and Kerim Zorlu maintain their lead position with the points they scored so far in the season.


100th Race’s trophy goes to GSYİAD Galatasaray 1905 team

Işıklar Holding Grand Prix winner was GSYİAD Galatasaray with Berna – Josef Muhlbauer while Beşiktaş piloted by Ali Tanır and Murat Leki took second place and 2 YKM Sport with Saruhan Tan and Kerim Zorlu came third.
18th leg of 2010 World Offshore 225 Championship “Işıklar Holding Grand Prix” was run on Sunday in collaboration with Istanbul Shop&Miles Boat Show and Marinturk in addition to the support of Işıklar Holding that has provided great contribution to the development of offshore sports in Turkey. “Işıklar Holding Grand Prix” was the 100th race held since the foundation of Istanbul Offshore Club and the trophy was presented to the winners by Rıza Işık, President of Işıklar Holding and Uğur Işık, Vice President of Işıklar Holding.

The race took place on a sunny and bright day in Pendik. The 18th leg of the Architon 2010 World Offshore Championship was run on this pleasant day and GSYİAD Galatasaray piloted by Berna – Josef Muhlbauer couple took first place while Beşiktaş with Ali Tanır and Murat Leki came second followed by 2 YKM Sport with Saruhan Tan and Kerim Zorlu, currently leading in the general standings of World Offshore Championship. Galatasaray team is on the attack in the last races of the season and finishing the race in the first place, it decreased the point gap with leader 2 YKM Sport. The championship will come to an end next week in Mersin with the 19th and 20th legs and mathematically three teams have the possibility to get the championship title. Thousands watched the exciting race in which anything could happen.

Offshore boats, aptly called flying boats, proved that they are indeed flying during today’s Işıklar Holding Grand Prix race. The teams were frequently forced to drop speed due to the waves and they encountered many dangers; GSYİAD Galatasaray and Beşiktaş teams raced as if they had wings. The teams fought with the waves especially in the Tuzla shipyards area and the adrenaline levels didn’t drop for a moment; the 35-lap race was breathtaking. 22 YKM Sport’s propeller broke toward the end of the race and the experienced pilots Cengiz Cennetoğlu and Kerem Zorlu had to retire. The turbulent waves challenged the teams.
