Galatasaray finished Ministry of Transportation Grand Prix, the 14th race of the Architon World Offshore Championship in the first place, followed by 02 YKM Sport in the second and Beşiktaş in third places, respectively. The event took place as part of the 3rd International Water Culture Festival and received warm interest from the visitors.

Fatih Municipality Grand Prix, the 7th leg and 14th race of Architon 2010 World Offshore 225 Championship was run today in Haliç. Last season’s second team consisting of Berna Muhlbauer and Josef Muhlbauer couple raced on the 05 GSYİAD 1905 boat and again displayed a very successful performance. 02 YKM Sport team lost serious time after an early pit stop that led them to heavy boat traffic and left its second position to Kara Kartal. Beşiktaş entered pit stop in the 17th lap and YKM used this move to its advantage. When Beşiktaş entered the circuit again, they could only get third place. The race ended with 2 YKM Sport in the second and Beşiktaş in the third place.

The archrivals 02 YKM Sport, Beşiktaş and GSYİAD Galatasaray teams put up a tough fight today. 15th race in the 8th leg of the season, Fatih Municipality Grand Prix 1 ended with the victory of Galatasaray team of Berna Muhlbaer, the only female pilot of the championship and Josef Muhlbaer. 2 YKM Sport piloted by Saruhan Tan and Kerim Zorlu finished in second place and Beşiktaş team of Ali Tanır and Murat Leki in third.

Achieving 90 mph, the flying boats raced for 20 laps in Golden Horn and displayed their best performance. There were 9 boats at the lineup on Saturday’s race and Galatasaray team started off in an impressive manner. The changes in ranking among YKM, Galatasaray and Beşiktaş add more excitement to the season.
Fatih Municipality Grand Prix 1 winners Berna Mühlbauer and Josef Mühlbauer received their trophies from Mustafa Demir, Mayor of Fatih and Enver Oral, President of Developing Sports Federation. Saruhan Tan – Kerim Zorlu duo, YKM Sport pilots on the second step of the podium received their trophies from Uğur Işık, Vice President of the Federation and Feridun Ayvazoğlu, Member of Parliament in the 23rd term. Third place winners Ali Tanır and Murat Leki of Beşiktaş received their trophies from Dilaver Azim and Servet Aslan, Members of the Developing Sports Federation.
Mustafa Demir, Mayor of Fatih, as the host of the championship this weekend spoke, saying: “Haliç that lies between the historical peninsula and Beyoğlu is one of the most beautiful areas in Istanbul with its cultural and physical structure. Named the “Golden Horn” by Europeans Haliç is one of the foundation blocks of Istanbul’s culture tourism. As Fatih Municipality, we are very pleased to be hosting the Architon 2010 World Offshore 225 Championship for the fifth time. We are proud to utilize the potential of the Gulf of Haliç in water and motor sports. I wish continued success to all the teams participating in the championship and their pilots”.
